London Hotel Star Ratings and Facilities

Star Ratings at hotels are issued by the U.K. Tourist Board, the AA and also the RAC.

Often websites and travel agents use their own rating systems. Whilst they claim this makes it easier to choose a hotel, you cannot be sure what the rating refers to. Hotelslondon.co.uk only uses the official ratings of hotels as issued by the AA or English Tourist Board. The stars represent the standards of quality and facilities, which you can expect of a hotel as follows:

1 star: Hotel staff are polite and provide a limited yet competent service. Most rooms are ensuite with private bathrooms and there is a designated eating area.
2 stars: The hotel staff are smartly presented and provide a good level of basic service. All rooms are ensuite (or the majority of rooms are ensuite) and have a television. There will be a restaurant, breakfast or dining room available to guests. These hotels will offer more comfortable accommodation over one star hotels.
3 stars: 3 star hotels are skilled in responding to guests needs and have a dedicated receptionist. All rooms are ensuite and have a television and telephone. These hotels have a restaurant and a bar or lounge.
4 stars: Formal, well presented and professional. 4 star hotels offer superior levels of accommodation. The hotel's reception will be manned 24 hours a day and luggage porters/assistance is available on request. All rooms have private bathrooms and the hotel offers a wide range of guest services. The hotel's restaurant offers a good menu and professional style of cusine.
5 stars: 5 star hotels offer excellent guest services and accommodation. Hotel staff are extremely professional and courteous and can assist with nearly any request. Accommodation is large and luxurious and the hotel's public areas are well presented and impressive. Rooms must be of an excellent quality and 5 star hotels will offer an extensive range of services and facilities. The hotel's restaurant will offer a high level of dining, accompanied by excellent wines.
