Holborn Tube Station
Holborn underground station is located in the district of Holborn at the junction of High Holborn and Kingsway. The station is serviced by the Piccadilly line (dark blue) between Covent Garden and Russell Square stations and by the Central line (red) between Tottenham Court Road and Chancery Lane stations.
Comfortably positioned between London's West End and the City of London, Holborn has all the delights of Covent Garden on one side to the south-west including the Covent Garden Piazza, the Theatre Museum and the Lyceum Theatre, and the white-collar city slickers of Fleet Street and the famous Inns of Court are on the other to the south-east. Directly to the east of the station you can relax, play sport, eat, visit the Sir John Soane's Museum or listen to music in Lincoln's Inn Fields (the largest public park in London) and to the south is the River Thames, The Strand and Somerset House which houses the Gilbert Collection.
Holborn became the home of London's legal trade back in the early 13th century and remains as such today. It is here where you can stroll throughout the grounds of the Inns of Court, including Lincoln's Inn, Gray's Inn, Middle Temple and Inner Temple (both Temple Inns are to the south of The Strand), and the 'Old Bailey', London's Central Criminal Court, the Royal Courts of Justice and the Royal College of Surgeons (AKA spy many squirmy things in the Hunterian Museum) are also located in the area. And if you're looking for somewhere to dine, restaurants such as Shanghai Blue on High Holborn and The Terrace in Lincoln's Inn Fields are located within 300 metres of Holborn tube station and both are delicious.
Most of London's Underground Stations have disabled access via lifts, and when you hear the recorded voice on every train platform advising you to 'mind the gap', this really is advice that should be taken seriously. It is also a universal fact that busy underground train stations and crowded city areas are a haven for pick-pockets so to ensure your journey and day out is enjoyable and stress-free, just be a little streetwise with your belongings.
