Travelling from Heathrow Airport to Central London

Heathrow Airport is approximately 20 miles from Central London, and is located in post code area UB3 of Greater London. Travelling to and from the airport is very easy, and the various modes of transport are sign-posted for both Arrivals and Departures throughout the airport terminals.

Heathrow Airport has connections to central London via taxi, bus, subway, direct express train and also by road if you have your own vehicle.

Heathrow Express Train The Heathrow Express train service, offers a direct rail link from all terminals to Paddington Station in Bayswater, Central London. The express train runs between 05:10 and 23:25, at 10 minutes, 25 minutes, 40 minutes and 55 minutes past the hour. The journey is non stop, and takes only 15 minutes. Approximate ticket prices are £14.50 pounds for adults and £7.50 pounds for children.
The trains are very comfortable, specially designed to take luggage, and offer free television and air conditioning. First class upgrades are available and offer extra features. Tickets can be bought either at the station, terminals or online at heathrowexpress.co.uk.

Heathrow Terminal 4 Tube sign The London Underground AKA tube (subway) runs to and from central London, passing through stations at Earls Court, Gloucester Road, South Kensington, Piccadilly Circus, Holborn, Russell Square and Kings Cross, amongst many others. The journey to and from Piccadilly Circus is approximately 45 to 60 minutes.
Monday to Saturday the first trains start running from the airport at 05:13 and the last train leaves at 23:49. From the city centre the first train is available from 06:32 Monday to Saturday and the last train runs at 00:32. Sundays the times are slightly later, with the first train running from Heathrow airport at 05:57 and from central London at 07:51. The last trains are then at 23:30 and 00:25 from the airport and city centre, respectively.
Tickets can be purchased either at the station or airport terminals, with travel cards bought at the airport, covering you for the entire day to use the tube and buses in the city centre. For discounted travel we recommend purchasing an Oyster card, which can save you up to 50% on each journey you make!

National Express Coach Buses and Coaches generally run from Heathrow Central Station, located nearby to Terminals 1, 2 and 3. Some Coach operators do pick up from the individual terminals. The central bus station is open 24 hours a day, with an information and travel centre available between 06:00 and 23:30. Tickets can be purchased either at the bus station or online at nationalexpress.com.
At night times a night bus also runs between the airport and central London. The bus picks up at the central bus station every 30 minutes and is designated the N9 service. The service runs approximately between 23:45 and 05:05 and passes through Hammersmith, Kensington, Hyde Park Corner, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square and Aldwych.

Black Taxi Sign Taxis are available at each terminal and do not need to be pre-booked. The average journey time is one hour or so, and the cost is around £50-60.00 pounds or so. It is strongly advised not to use taxi services which approach you as you exit the terminal, as private firms are not as highly regulated as "black taxi cabs". There are taxi information desks at each terminal should you require any assistance.

Hire cars and private vehicles can be parked easily at the airport. The airport is located just off of the M4 motorway, which runs into Earls Court and Kensington then onto the city centre as the A4 and Cromwell Road. The Airport is also reachable by the M25 motorway which is reached by taking the A40 out of the city centre and then following the signposts for the airport.
