Bond Street
Bond Street is the posh friend of Oxford and Regent Streets, located in the plush district of Mayfair. Known as Old Bond Street, which starts at Piccadilly, and New Bond Street, which ends at the intersection of Oxford Street, this major shopping strip is designer label heaven - home to the most classic and glamorous shops in London.
Bond Street used to be known for its exclusive art dealers and antique shops, but now very few of these exist - two of the few being Bond Street Antiques Centre and the Opera Gallery - as they have been replaced with top end fashion stores including some of the worlds most famous and finest designer labels. Gucci, Armani, Prada, Russell & Bromley Shoes, Chanel, Miu Miu, Cartier, Folli Follie Jewellery, Polo Ralph Lauren - clearly the shopping is amazing but be prepared to pay high end prices! Zara, a Spanish designed clothing store, is also there and, thankfully, the price tags allow you to breathe a little!
The infamous Sotheby´s Auction House is located at 34-35 New Bond Street where it has been for over 100 years. For anyone with a passion for art of any descent or type (collectors, buyers and browsers alike), Sotheby´s galleries are open for public viewing during the week and it is definitely worth popping in.
New Bond Street, the northern end, is a five minute walk through pedestrian only South Molton Street to Bond Street Underground Station, and Old Bond Street is very close to Piccadilly Circus.
This West End street of decadent shopping is prestigious, charming and sophisticated, but welcoming. It is definitely keeping up with tastes of new generations, although sometimes it does feel a little like you are walking down Rodeo Drive with a Kookai handbag!
